M.Sc. Electronic Media programme of the Department of Electronic Media is designed to impart skills required for producing a variety of content for electronic media – television. Radio, and new media platforms.     

 

Growth in television channels, radio stations, and web-based media platforms has created a demand for skilled manpower to produce content for electronic media by using the technologies in vogue in the media industry. To cater to the demand, Bangalore University took the initiative and established the Department of Electronic Media. And the Department launched M.sc in Electronic Media, a two-year post-graduate course in 2002-03 academic year.   Though the course has a pragmatic mix of theory and practice, the emphasis is on practical training so as to prepare students for careers in television channels, radio stations, and the new media industry. The department has a television studio with a multi-camera setup, latest editing hardware and software, audio recording and editing equipment for producing a variety of radio programmes, and a well-equipped computer lab. Well-qualified faculty and well-equipped classrooms add value to the technologic-centric teaching and learning process of the course.  

 

The course is taught in four semesters spread across two years. At the end of the last semester, students will undergo eight-week internship in media organisations. The important areas taught in the course include news gathering and writing for electronic media, new media technology, television production techniques, radio production, new media, media management, advertising, corporate communication, media ethics, and media research.

 

The alumnus of the department have  made their mark in television news and entertainment channels, radio stations, advertising and corporate communication agencies,  film industry and in the field of education.

  1. M.Sc. in Electronic Media (Self Financing Course)

Duration: 4 Semesters (2 years)

Intake; 35 + Payment Seats – 05

Eligibility: Candidates who have passed any bachelor’s degree examination of Bangalore University or any other recognized University with 50 percent of marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST students) are eligible to apply as per the Bangalore University rules.

 2. PhD in Electronic Media

Duration: As per University PhD Regulation

Intake: 12

Nature of Course: Part time, Full time

Eligibility: As per Bangalore University PhD Regulations 2016

Admission Procedure

Admission is made in order of merit through centralized online admission system

Admission will happen once in a year through public notification by the University.
